One Step at a Time – Ryan’s Journey to Big School is a gentle transition-to-school story created to help young children explore some of the people, places, routines and experiences they may encounter as they prepare to start school.

Through Ryan’s journey, children can wonder, ask questions and talk about experiences such as arriving at school, meeting a teacher, finding their belongings, using the toilets, joining in, making a friend, waiting their turn and asking for help.

Every child’s transition will be different. Ryan’s journey is not a checklist of what starting school should look like, but a warm starting point for children and the adults who care for them to talk, wonder and discover together.
